miscelaneous stuff

Here is the view from one of my drives to a barn out here. It was a long dirt road and now I wish I would've taken a pic of the road! Anyways, update on the work situation: the dressage barn wanted me to work for free, so I had to respectfully decline. I am still meeting with another trainer this Sat, so hopefully that goes better.

Jay's work had a company picnic on Sat afternoon and I met the wife of one of his coworkers, who has her own graphic design company and basically offered me a job, so I think I'm gonna go that route. I think she needs part time help, so I may still be able to find some work at a barn part time also, which would be perfect.

Sat morning the Heldts invited us to breakfast at "Le Peep" which is excellent breakfast grub. Then we hiked "the Rock", which is the castle-looking rock which the town of Castle Rock is named after. It was a good introductory hike for those of us still trying to get aclimatized (is that a word?) to the altitude up here. Sorry for the random placement of the photos, Blogger doesn't want to cooperate today.

Sounds like a great time on Saturday morning :) I'm happy to hear about the job prospect too!

I like the picture of the five of you standing with the town in the background. I can just hear someone saying, "Just think, this will all be houses as far as the eye can see. Isn't it glorious?"

Those pics make me think about just how far away we live from you guys! The landscape is so different. Still pretty, just different.

Whoa! Nice pics. I didn't realize my backpack had reflecters. Cool!

Actually Joshua, Castle Rock will stop developing when they reach 100,000 residence (Which is 75,000 more than there currently is). They have a lot of restrictions about where buliding is permitted so a lot of the open space will remain, especially the mesa's that make Castle Rock unique to the area. I cannot say the same for Parker... more so because I don't know than anything else.

In Parker you're only allowed to build on top of formerly pretty things.

Weird, you have enjoyed more of the outdoors in the last month then the last 3 years in California.

I like how the post after one of Jay's posts reads:

"silly Jay..."

I always think that's going to happen to one of mine, but people respond to it as being serious. Crazy.

On a serious note, my home town of Gig Harbor, WA had a strict law where lots could be no smaller than 1 acre. Now the law is, within the city limits you can't build multi-story homes. The problems with laws passed is there's always a new politician reversing or changing them due to that day's needs; or to KB Homes' needs or Lenar's needs...

Yeah, that's totally true Joshua. I do like the idea of 1 acre lots though. It is really hard to believe that our population could increase that much to change the ordinance, but I'm sure the idea of email would have baffled our parents when they were our age. Jenna feels like Mike and I live in the middle of nowhere and it seems really commercialized to me. Ahh, perspective!

I think that's happening to Tommy and I too! When we first looked at houses around here, some of them felt like total country. Now it doesn't seem like that at all. Weird how quickly one can adjust to their new circumstances.
