We headed out to Hacienda, a mexican restaurant nearby that we'd been wanting to try for a long time. Good eats! It reminded us a little of El Torito Grill (which is the nicer El Torito), or Mission Grill in SLO. It was definitely the best Mexican food we've had in Colorado. They hand-make everything fresh (tortillas, etc), and everything on the menu looked delicious. I got some awesome Barbacoa tacos, and Jenna got some tasty guacamole and shrimp enchiladas.... which I couldn't taste due to my obnoxious allergy to avacados

Then we headed out to the Gothic Theatre in Englewood to go see one of our favorite bands, Pinback. I had read some mixed reviews of their live shows, but they played great. The bass player plays in a way I've never seen. He plays a "piccolo bass", which is a bass tuned like a guitar, and plays a combination of whole hand strumming and fingerstyle. I can't imagine how much that must hurt to strum bass strings with your bare fingers... Probably the most creative bass player I've ever seen. Also the only band I've ever seen that had a couple songs with two basses as lead instruments. The theatre itself was also pretty cool. Its one of those old movie theaters that fell into disrepair, then some guys bought it out of foreclosure and restored it to its former glory, putting in a good sound system and a full balcony level in the process. (picture below is not from the actual show, but it looked exactly the same)

We're clearly getting old though, because Jenna started getting sleepy around 10:30 (the fact that some of their songs are kind of mellow didn't help, either), so we took off just before the end of the set (around 11:00) after watching people stumble past us and fall over drunk.. we didn't want to deal with them after the show...
Anyway, it was nice to get out for a change as a couple. We're going to have to do that more often.

What a fun way to spend a Friday night. And shame on Jenna for ordering something you couldn't even try. I still haven't braved mexican out here. We rarely go out and I always want Chili's chicken tacos when we do. Some pregnancy cravings are around for life I think. Oh and I like El Torito better than El Torito Grill.
We have yet to find any decent Mexican restaraunts around here. We stick to Chipotle if we are having cravings.
I know what you mean about feeling old. Friday night we went out with some of our friends and by 10:30 and two drinks, I'm pretty sure I was drunk and ready for bed. So sad...
There are some El Torito Grills that are better than others. We've been to a few that were not that good, but the ones that are, are awesome!
COULD LAINA BE ANY CUTER?! I love that little oufit!
:) mom
Yeah! You guys definitely deserve a night out. Glad to hear that dinner and the band were no disappointment. Sounds fun. I'll have to get busy making plans for Theresa and I to do something of the same type of thing. Laina looks too cute in that pic too!
Blessings,
Dad
